Advantages for International Students
English Language Support
Monroe’s innovative EASE (Enhanced Academic Support in English) program provides language assistance on campus, allowing students to learn English at the same time they are engaged in their studies. Students who demonstrate academic success may be selected to enter the Monroe Honors Program, which allows gifted students to participate in enhanced intellectual coursework.
One-on-One
All students at Monroe, including our international students, are assigned an Academic Advisor at the beginning of their studies to monitor their progress and ensure they are receiving the support and assistance they need to succeed. Our Office of Career Services is committed to working with students one-on-one to help them prepare their resumes, apply to jobs, and conduct mock interviews. Additionally, tutoring is available to every student throughout their academic career.
OPT and CPT
Practical training is a benefit available to eligible F-1 students during and after their academic program at Monroe University. As the name suggests, practical training allows students to gain practical experience by working in a position directly related to their academic program. There are two types of practical training: curricular practical training (CPT) and optional practical training (OPT).
International 2nd Master's Degree
The King Graduate School at Monroe University has been a premium choice for local and international students seeking to grow and refine their professional skills with a second master’s degree. Our program provides flexible scheduling, with a mix of virtual LIVE, on-site, and on-line modalities, as well as a 7-credit minimum full-time course load, in a supportive setting, with competitive tuition. Our professional experience track provides CPT and internship opportunities for valuable work experience at the graduate level.
J1 Visa Student Exchange Program
Monroe welcomes J1 exchange students from around the world! International students currently studying at foreign universities and institutions of higher education can study for 1-3 semesters at our New Rochelle campus. J1 students will receive up to 15 college credits in their degree program while living on campus and experiencing the cultural diversity of New York.
Au Pair Academy
Our Au Pair Academy at Monroe University offers continuing education classes virtually and on campus (located at 145 Huguenot Street, New Rochelle). Our staff has been working with au pairs for many years and understands your academic and career needs. We look forward to welcoming you to our vibrant and supportive college community.
ESL Program
Are you looking to learn or improve your English and be part of a college community? Monroe's ESL program provides students whose primary language is not English with the reading, writing, and verbal skills necessary for success in the U.S. Students will become fluent in English through language instruction, cultural immersion, intensive lab experiences, and courses in U.S. culture and art such as drama, music, film, dance, and graphic arts. You will have the opportunity to learn English and meet individuals with the same goals while being part of a college campus with the potential to enroll in a full time college degree program in the near future.
Cultural– Sports Immersion Program
The New York Cultural Immersion program (NYCI) serves High School students and college students between 16 and 21 years of age. Combining ESL for business with sports and exciting sightseeing trips around New York City, NYCI students will make new friends from around the world. Students will work toward a final small group business project to present to an audience at the end of the program and earn a certificate of completion.
