This certificate program provides an entry pathway to law enforcement careers and can be completed in two semesters. Students receive an introduction to NYPD hiring standards, making this program ideal for those seeking to meet the 24‑credit requirement for NYPD Academy acceptance. Upon completion, participants may enter the workforce immediately or continue their education through our provisional agreement, which requires finishing the Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice within five years of certificate completion. Students will begin their studies in criminal justice with focused, practical education designed for career readiness and future advancement opportunities in law enforcement.
This Program is suitable for all individuals interested in a law enforcement career, and specifically in the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
Why a Certificate in Criminal Justice?

Admission Requirements
Applicants for the Certificate in Criminal Justice must fulfill the following admissions requirements:
- Candidates must possess either a high school graduation credential or high school equivalency diploma, or a recognized college associate degree or higher as listed in the transfer admissions policy.
- Candidates must submit a completed application for admission and a personal statement or essay.
Criminal Justice candidates also participate in a pre-admission interview.
