Monroe Community Comes Together to Help Those in Need

Monroe works hard to be a good neighbor within the communities we serve. We have a long history of opening our hearts and our doors to help those in need, especially around the holidays.

That spirit of giving back is evident this fall as students, faculty, and staff rally to help spread warmth and cheer through an on-campus food drive and a toy drive to support area families.

This year's Thanksgiving Food Drive was organized jointly by our Honor Program and School of Criminal and Social Justice (SCSJ). Bronx donations will be delivered to St. James Food Pantry, which is part of the church just across the street from King Hall, and food collected in the New Rochelle bins will go to HOPE Soup Kitchen.

Collection bins have been set up all around campus for students, staff, and faculty to donate non-perishable food donations. Those who wish to donate to the Thanksgiving Food Drive can drop by non-perishable food items at the Bronx campus at King Hall, Jerome Hall, and Ustin Hall or at the New Rochelle campus at 145 Huguenot, Locust Hall, Main Hall, and Milavec Hall.

Some suggested donations include:

- Canned yams/Sweet potatoes
- Cranberry sauce
- Mashed potatoes
- Stuffing
- Gravy
- Cornbread Mix
- Canned fruit or vegetables
- Canned beans
- Pasta or rice
- Boxed macaroni & cheese
- Shelf-stable milk
- Healthy cereals/oatmeal
- Stop & Shop gift cards
- Morton Williams gift cards

Holiday Toy Drive

The University will once again be making a donation to the annual toy drive and giveaway hosted by the NYPD's 52nd Precinct and Community Board 7. Additionally, our SCSJ and the student-run Human Services Club will be collecting new and gently used toys to give to the children of incarcerated women. Unwrapped donations are being accepted through November 25th.

Toys may be dropped off on the New Rochelle campus at Gaddy Hall, Main Hall, and Milavec Hall or can be brought to SCSJ Director of Student Engagement and Special Events Faye Roberts Paul on the Bronx campus.

Our thanks to all who help make the holidays a little brighter this year for local families!
