How to Apply

At Monroe, our military veteran admissions team will be there to navigate the financial aid and registration process. We are here to support you every step of the way so you can be successful in your academic goals.

Application Checklist

1. Submit

A Completed Application. You must submit your application online at monroeu.edu/apply. You'll first create a Monroe ID in your application portal and share key information like your areas of interest.
A Completed Essay. The essay is your time to shine and communicate your story in your own words in a way that goes beyond your grades.
Application Fee or Fee Waiver. All military veterans receive fee waivers.

2. Request

Official College Transcripts (from all institutions attended). You can order all official college transcripts via one of our preferred platforms, Parchment or Clearinghouse and upload your completion diploma to your admissions portal.
High School Transcript or Diploma. Submit a copy of your current high school transcript, diploma, and other academic qualifications to your admissions portal.

3. Interview

Schedule your interview. In person, by phone, zoom, FaceTime or option to upload a video, we want to connect with you, meet the person behind the application and hear your dreams and career goals.

Credit Eligibility

Monroe has a generous transfer-credit policy and will work with you to identify credits to be applied to your degree from many sources.

Military Credits:
As a member of Service Members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) and The Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP), Monroe accepts American Council on Education (ACE) recommended credit for:

Military training or experience
College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES)
Proficiency Examination Program (PEP)
United States Armed Forces Institute (USAFI)

You also may receive credit for the following:

Prior colleges and universities you attended
Police or Corrections Academy training
Life experience

Monroe University is a member of:

Veteran Benefits

Many veterans who are eligible for the GI Bill® and active duty military attend Monroe with no out-of-pocket expense. Many applicants are eligible for tuition assistance from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other government agencies. In addition to tuition, benefits pay housing and textbook costs.

Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA)

Monroe University offers veterans the flexibility to earn their degree primarily online while attending just one required in-person class session at our Bronx campus each semester.

Eligible students attending classes on our Bronx campus may qualify for the New York City Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) through this hybrid format. Eligibility and payment amounts are determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs based on each student’s benefit level, enrollment status, course schedule, and current VA regulations.

Flexible Hybrid Degree Program

Flexible Format for Veterans & Active Duty Military
- Only one required in-person session per semester at Monroe's Bronx campus.
- Complete the remainder of your coursework online and virtually, giving you the flexibility to balance school, work, and family.
Undergraduate Programs
- Attend courses online and virtually.
- Enroll in full time 12 credits each semester.
- Participate in one required virtual class every Friday.
- Attend one mandatory in-person session each semester at the Bronx campus.
- In-Person class dates for the Fall Semester are:
  - Friday, September 25
  - Friday, October 23
  - Friday, November 20
Graduate Programs
- Complete all classes virtually.
- Enroll in full time 7-9 credits each semester.
- Attend one mandatory in-person session each semester at the Bronx campus.
- Choose a Monday-through-Thursday class schedule.
- The in-person date takes place on the student’s regular class day during one of these Fall 2026 periods:
  - September 28–October 3
  - October 24–29
  - November 16–21
Multiple Start Dates
- Three enrollment opportunities each year:
  - September
  - January
  - April
