Human services is focused on both preventing and remediating problems. Human services professionals work alongside social workers, detectives, doctors, and other specialists who help individuals tackle major challenges in their lives, such as substance abuse. The minor in Human Services provides you with the skills you need to serve clients in various public outreach organizations.
As a human services professional, you might serve individuals and families with low incomes; those with mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, or late-onset disabilities; people who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing or deaf-blind; parents needing child care services, child support and/or health care for their children; and families facing catastrophic medical expenses for their children.
In addition to all other Criminal Justice and Public Health degree requirements, the human services minor requires you to complete 21 credits in human services-related courses.
This must consist of:
- Five (5) required human services minor courses - 15 credits.
- Two (2) required human services minor elective courses - 6 credits.
